Itamar Birnbaum, MD, is a board-certified cardiologist who specializes in interventional cardiology. Dr. Birnbaum graduated summa cum laude with a degree in microbiology from The University of Texas at Austin. After graduating he attended Baylor College of Medicine where he earned his medical degree and completed his residency and fellowship training. While at Baylor College of Medicine he received awards for teaching and was a member of the honor society. Dr. Birnbaum’s goal in caring for his patients is to arm them with the knowledge and understanding of their medical conditions in order to help them fully participate in shared decisionmaking.

His clinical interests include interventional coronary imaging and hemodynamics, complex coronary interventions, echocardiography, heart failure, prevention and exercise in cardiology care, lipid management and valvular heart disease. Dr. Birnbaum is a member of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He has conducted research to improve care for cardiology patients and has been published in medical journals on topics including ischemia, deep vein thrombosis, cardiomyopathy and more. He has also been a featured speaker at large, national medical meetings. Dr. Birnbaum is a former combat medic, and during his service, was a clinical instructor and participated in military medicine research. He is fluent in Spanish.
